Jackson County wins $81,500 grant from MDEQ for illegal dumping project

The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality has awarded Jackson County a solid waste assistance grant of $81,500 that will be used for enforcement and clean up of illegal dumping. "The solid waste assistance grants support a variety of useful solid waste management activities for cities and counties, and this grant will assist Jackson County's efforts in improving their management of solid waste," MDEQ Executive Director Gary Rikard said.

MDEQ issues two Water Contact Advisories

The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality , through its Beach Monitoring Program, issued water contact advisories Thursday for two sampling stations. These segments of beach are not closed; however, there may be an increased risk of illness associated with swimming in this area.

If you are planning to hit the beach, there are three sections of water in the Mississippi Sound that you want to avoid in Harrison County. The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality issued water contact advisories Wednesday from Courthouse Road east to Tegarden Road in Gulfport and in Biloxi from Travia Avenue east to Iberville Drive and from St. Peter Street east to Dukate Street.
