Quality Assurance for Essential Climate Variables Consultancy Support

The tasks of the key person will include Generation of data records Analysis of the data record quality employing quality monitoring procedures and other validation techniques and data as appropriate Acquisition of relevant data from internal and external sources to support product quality monitoring Support implementation, processing and validation of the product with other international partners e.g. JMA, NOAANCDC Preparation of QA4ECV data for ingestion into the EUMETSAT Data Centre Compilation of relevant data set documentation including validation reports, user guides and format descriptions Compilation of project result presentations and participation in project progress meetings. PROFILE In addition to having a University degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline, the key person shall have strong technical skills with a minimum of 1 year experience in the implementation of software for delayed mode processing of satellite data. The key person is required to have strong experience with the following mandatory skills Programming languages CC andor FORTRAN Working in unixlinux environment Scripting languages, such as Python, Perl, shell Analysis and graphic software such as IDL Data formats such as NetCDF4, GRIB, HDF5, and BUFR. Furthermore, the key person shall have knowledge in the following areas Processing and monitoring of large volume of remote sensing data Validation of satellite products. Knowledge in the following areas would be an advantage Operational product processing environments Data bases such as MySQL and Oracle EUMETSAT Meteosat missions and instruments Retrieval of parameters using visible wave lengths Calibration of satellite observations in the visible spectral range. The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for the position is English and therefore the Engineer must be able to work effectively in this language and have knowledge of the other. Software Engineering Skills Experience minimum 3 years in designing and developing software applications using C and Java programming languages for UNIXLinux operating systems.
