A vacancy for a LASER OPTICAL INSTRUMENT DESIGN ENGINEER mf has opened up at Airbus Defence and Space at its Toulouse site. You will join the Instrument Studies Advanced Concepts department. The department is simultaneously leading several study projects for durations of 6 months to 1 and a half years. Each study is carried out in teams of 3 to 5 people. In this context, you will concentrate on Laser Communication or Lidar missions and will be responsible for steering one or two studies. Typically, a preproject study involves the following activities Based on preliminary specifications of the mission, definition of instrument concepts which may meet needs for each concept sizing and defining the first class of the various subassemblies type of optical combination, choice of detectors, electrical and mechanical architecture drawing up performance assessments FTM, SB report, etc., Comparing the different concepts and choosing a concept while integrating feasibility, performance and development criteria duration, risk, cost, Acting as an interface with the customer and potentially with the scientific team with regard to the mission specifications, Carrying out more detailed studies and analysis of the critical points of a concept optical combination, alignment tolerances, thermoelastic stability, electronic functions, etc.. with the support of the various specialists from the instrument division, Performing detailed interface and performance assessments dimensions, mass, power and data flows potentially introducing deliverable performance models, Creating a development plan and estimating costs, defining the development logic, test plan, and means of testing required, Writing preliminary specifications for certain componentsequipment and consulting with suppliers identifying European manufacturers who may intervene in the project according to their experience and knowhow, Drafting study reports in French and in English, giving oral presentations to the customer, Replying to calls for tender, Proposing modelling or RD activities, Participating in conferences, publications. As the successful candidate, you will be able to demonstrate the following skills and experiences Qualified engineer or university equivalent or Doctorate, ideally in astrophysics, 3 years experience in laser optical instruments, Good knowledge of the following complex systems and leadingedge technologies Software, electronics, detection, thermomechanics and optomechanics, Ideally good knowledge of scientific observation missions, Initial experience in team management and leadership would be highly appreciated, Excellent interpersonal skills and transnational and multifunctional teamplayer skills, Summary skills, meticulousness, method, pragmatism, ability to solve problems in realtime in a very demanding environment, Advanced level of English and French. You will join the System Studies Advanced Projects department TSPEF61, managing several design contracts simultaneously for a duration of 6 months to 1 and a half years. Each study is carried out with a team of 3 to 5 people. Depending on your experience, you will be responsible for one or two studies.Typically, a preproject study involves the following activities Starting from preliminary specifications of the mission, definition of instrument concepts to meet needs. For each concept, sizing and making a first order definition of the different subassemblies type of optical combination, choice of detectors, mechanical and electrical architecture, establishing performance reviews MTF, SB report, etc., Comparing different concepts and choosing a concept, integrating feasibility, performance and development criteria duration, risk, cost, Interfacing with the customer and if necessary with the science team on the specifications of the mission, More detailed studies and analysis on the critical points of a concept optical combination, alignment tolerances, thermoelastic stability, electronic functions, etc. with the support of different specialists from the instrument division, Detailed performance reviews, and interface reviews dimensions, mass, power, data rates, implementation of deliverable performance models if necessary, Production of a development plan and estimation of costs, definition of the development process, test plan, and test resources necessary, Writing of preliminary specifications for certain componentsequipment and consultation with suppliers, identification of European organisations who may intervene in the project according to their experience and knowhow, Writing of designstudy reports in French or in English, oral presentations in front of the customer, Response to calls for tender Proposals for modelling or RD activities, Publications, participation in conferences. This position will require occasional travel for business once a month in Europe, and, as such, you must be able to travel accordingly.As the successful candidate you will be able to demonstrate some of the following skills and experience. Space Applications Services performs and supports system and software engineering for the European Space Agency ESA, National Space Agencies and the aerospace industry. We are involved in international manned unmanned spacecraft programmes, earth observation, science, exploration, communications and related technology development. We require staff, wishing to join our team to work in a dynamic international environment for the following position Optical Imaging Sensors Operations XBand and PDHU Engineer mf Tasks and Responsibilities The work will be performed at the European Space Operations Centre ESOC in Darmstadt, Germany. This position, generally referred to as a Spacecraft Operations Engineer SOE, is responsible for the support to the Sentinels missions as a member of the Flight Control Team FCT during the operational phases, including special operations, and will also participate in test campaigns. The position will include the following tasks and responsibilities Act as Expert Operations and Planning for the assigned Optical imaging sensors especially in the area of Spectometry Operations, including Xband and PDHU subsystem management, during LEOP, Commissioning and Routine phases. Validation, test and operation of the Simulator and of the Mission Control System MCS including the OnBoard Software Maintenance OBSM and Mission Planning System. Generation, validation and maintenance of the Flight Operations Plan FOP primarily on Payload, PDHU and Xband subsystems, but also for other systems. Support to test and operate the Network Data Interface Unit NDIU. Support for Flight Operations System FOS procurement, integration and tests. Review of satellite documents. Launch and Early Orbit Phase LEOP support Responsible for Payload, PDHU and Xband. Commissioning support Responsible for Payload, PDHU and Xband. The tasks to be performed require considerable initiative, flexibility and independence in executing the assigned tasks. Qualifications and Experience Applicants should have as a minimum a Bachelors degree in a relevant discipline and minimum 3 years of experience in Operations Engineering activities. The following qualifications and experience are required Excellent knowledge and demonstrates experience in Satellite Flight Operations, including FDIR. In particular, for this service support expert knowledge in the areas of optical imaging sensors, ideally spectrometers eg GOME, SCIAMACHY, TROPOMI operations execution andor OPSPREP, and in the data storage and xband operations or OPSPREP is essential. Experience with Packet Utilisation Standard. Experience in working in an operational environment. Experience with flight procedures life cycle, including validation. Experience with anomaly investigations. Ability to understand and accurately predict behaviour of complex systems. Experience with low Earth orbit satellites operations, including experience in preparatory phase OPSPREP, special Operations LEOP, deorbiting campaign and routine operations. The ability to work independently with little supervision. Wellorganised, able to prioritise and manage several activities in parallel. Capable to coordinate and interact with other service providers in operations and other fields. Fluent in English both written and spoken. Familiarity with operational simulators, ideally SimSat, and management of SPRs life cycle. Familiarity with Earth Observations missions, in particular with Copernicus Sentinels. Familiarity with Telemetry and Telecommand TMTC databases, preferably SCOS2000 compatible. Familiarity with multisatellite missions. Experience in ground tests preparation and execution, e.g. Satellite Validation Test. Experience in cooperation with Flight Dynamics Teams. Experience with XML formatting. Experience in file exchange mechanisms, including security aspects. The following experience is desirable Familiarity with Network Distribution and Interface Units or similar Electronical Ground Segment Equipment EGSE. Familiarity with MUST. Familiarity with ESOC working environment and Quality Management System QMS. The position is located on site at ESOC and will involve short European travels.
