Orange to invest in two bitcoin start-ups
2015-04-10 08:58:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Orange Silicon Valley announced its intention to invest in two bitcoin start-ups in the next few months, after holding a series of meetings. CEO Georges Nahon said, "There's something intriguing in this technology, so we want to be there as early as possible. This could be a digital platform of the future." Orange plans to invest USD 20,000 in each in partnership with a consortium investing up to USD 3 million per start-up. Bloomberg writes that telecom operators have for the most part stayed away from bitcoin, although several funds related to technology companies have invested in bitcoin start-ups. The technology could be modified to help facilitate transactions at businesses such as carriers, banks, stock exchanges or insurance providers.

(Telecompaper) Orange and Vivendi have entered into exclusive negotiations regarding Vivendi's acquisition of 80 percent of video portal Dailymotion for EUR 217 million, corresponding to a EUR 265 million enterprise value for Dailymotion. Orange will keep 20 percent in the company. For Orange, which has accompanied the successful development of Dailymotion since 2011, this operation meets the group's ambition to bring Dailymotion together with a strategic content-focused partner that is capable of giving it the means to accelerate its growth and to turn it into one of the world's largest content distribution platforms. The operator will use its 20 percent holding to accelerate Dailymotion's international growth and to enhance its content offer. Orange will use the proceeds of this transaction to finance and reinforce its efforts in the digital ecosystem. Orange Switzerland plans rebrand in 2015
2015-03-31 10:54:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) Orange Switzerland announced an 11 percent increase in EBITDA in 2014 to CHF 433.8 million, while revenues rose 1.9 percent to CHF 1.316 billion. The number of customers increased 0.9 percent to 2.166 million at the end of 2014, led by a 2.3 percent increase in postpaid users to 1.155 million. Orange attributed the growth to expansion of LTE services, which covered 90 percent of the Swiss population by the end of 2014, and its Go Europe offer which drove a 256 percent increase in adoption of its data roaming packs. After a major IT transformation early in the year, the group started to regain its commercial momentum in Q4, according to CEO Johan Andsjo. The operator also announced that it will rebrand in 2015, following its takeover by NJJ Capital, the investment vehicle of Xavier Niel, the founder of French operator Free. The new brand will be announced at the end of April.
