Google is in the early stages of developing a nanoparticle-covered pill to detect cancer and other serious health problems such as heart disease, according to Andrew Conrad, head of the life sciences team at Google X, who revealed the project last week. The pill would work in tandem with a wearable magnetic device worn by the patient; the device would guide the pill to different parts of the body.

Federal health officials have approved a daily pill that can cure the most common form of hepatitis C without the grueling pill-and-injection cocktail long used to treat the virus. But the drug's $1,125-per-pill price is sure to increase criticism of drugmaker Gilead Sciences, whose pricing strategy for an older hepatitis drug has already drawn scorn from patient groups, insurers and politicians worldwide.
Auxilium to mull Endo's offer - and initiate poison pill

Chesterbrook drugmaker Auxilium Pharmaceuticals responded Wednesday to an unsolicited takeover offer from Endo International P.L.C. by saying it would look at the offer, as required by financial regulations, but also would institute a poison-pill stock-dividend plan to ward off Endo. Endo valued the cash-and-stock offer at $28.10 per share, or $2.2 billion, but it did not specify how much of that total was stock and how much was cash.
