Australia: Don't burden future generations by leaving emissions cuts to them: Garnaut
2015-06-01 16:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Age: Former climate adviser to two Labor governments Professor Ross Garnaut says Australia should ensure the heaviest burden of cutting greenhouse gases is not pushed onto future generations and new emissions targets should be set accordingly. In a paper that has been sent to the Abbott government's review of what targets to reduce emissions Australia should adopt for after 2020, Professor Garnaut proposes cuts of at least 27.5 per cent by 2025 and 40 per cent by 2030, both from 2000 levels. World Bank sets methane price floor to cut emissions
2015-05-29 11:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
RTCC: To gee up green projects at risk of closure, the World Bank has guaranteed a minimum price for methane credits being auctioned for the first time. That will stimulate investment in projects ranging from biomass to waste management in developing countries, it hopes, curbing emissions of the heat-trapping gas. The owner of a landfill site could capture methane from the waste to generate power, for example. The World Bank says its plans will give financial security to sites in developing countries...
