France calls for tougher EU CO2 emission target

2013-09-20 12:20:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

Reuters: France called on its European Union partners on Friday to agree a more ambitious target to cut greenhouse gas emissions and said the 28-nation bloc should consider imposing an EU-wide carbon tax. French President Francois Hollande urged the EU to cut CO2 emissions by 40 percent by 2030 compared to 1990 levels - a much tougher target than the existing 20 percent goal. "Europe must set an example," Hollande told an energy conference in Paris, adding that France would lead the way with a goal...

CO2 Laser Optics come in 9.3-10.6 µm wavelengths.

2013-09-16 14:29:26| Industrial Newsroom - All News for Today

Custom-manufactured CO2 laser optics, available for tunable lasers and instrumentation applications, come in sizes from ½–1 in. OD and 0.070–0.12 in. thick. Featuring laser-grade ZnSe, laser optics have 40-20 scratch-dig surface finish per MIL-PRF-13830 and 1/40 wave max flatness @10.6 µm on 2 faces. Parallelism is 3 arc/mins, and applications include cutting, welding, drilling, marking, and materials processing. This story is related to the following:CO2 (Carbon Dioxide) Optics |

Tiniest plankton to thrive with increased CO2, upsetting ocean carbon cycle

2013-09-14 16:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

Summit County: In the great global warming experiment there will be winners and losers, and it looks like some of the tiniest plankton species will be among the winners -- probably at the expense of larger species higher up the food chain. Research off the coast of Svalbard, Norway in 2010 showed that the smallest plankton groups thrive at elevated carbon dioxide levels. This could cause an imbalance in the food web as well as a decrease ocean CO2 uptake, an important regulator of global climate. The results...
