Principal Spacecraft Systems Engineer Exo Mars Rover

AIRBUS GROUP A vacancy for a Principal Spacecraft Systems Engineer has arisen within Airbus Defence Space in Stevenage. As the successful applicant you will support the system engineering managers with a target focused on Exo Mars Rover to module interfaces. The successful candidate will be subject to UK National Security Clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs. Your main tasks and responsibilities will include Requirements management and change impact analysis, including verification planning and tracking. Technical resource and performance budget management including some underlying analyses. System level Tradeoffs including both technical and programmatic factors, including costs. Interface management. Identifying dedicated analyses needs to ensure full engineering coverage to meet the requirements, formulating plans for approval and executing them within the team. Preparing progress reports of work performed, in both Word and PowerPoint styles. Presenting and communicating complex technical problems and solution approach to internal and external parties. Review of subcontractor documentation including design reports, analyses, tradeoffs, technical budgets, interface requirements and designs etc, including raising and coordination of RIDs at design reviews. Coordinating multiauthor documentation as book captain, including datapack generation planning and tracking. Generating own documentation including responsibility to progress through signature loop. Answering relevant customer RIDs at design reviews of Astrium work. Chairing and secretary tasks of meetings as required. Work package management. Work area management and associated planning and reporting. This role will involve some travel for business and as such you must be able to travel accordingly. We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience Educated to first degree level or equivalent in Engineering, Science, Physics or related topic. A proven experience in system engineering and in space engineering is mandatory Understanding of EMC, Cleanliness and electricalmechanical interface would be appreciated. Experience in and understanding of requirements engineering in DOORS. Knowhow project management processes meeting management, change management, action tracking is mandatory for the position. The successful applicant will join the department STV Stress Design Authority. Your mission will be to Independently plan analysis campaign for team and ensure completion of all tasks required, in the allocated time, to demonstrate that the structure design meets its strength and stiffness requirements. Independently lead major project and on any design team. Sign off for area of responsibility. Responsible for maintaining a high degree of technical competency in their specialised field within an engineering group. The successful candidate will be subject to UK National Security Clearance in order to undertake related work in accordance with business needs. Your main tasks and responsibilities will include To identify all strength and stiffness requirements and ensure that they are valid. To perform or supervise all structural analysis necessary to ensure that all strength and stiffness requirements are met with a minimum mass design. To ensure that the design incorporates all features necessary to meet the strength and stiffness requirements. To provide a detailed definition of all structural testing required verifying that the strength and stiffness requirements are met. To monitor these tests and issue a test assessment report that demonstrates that requirements have been met and that the pretest analysis was of sufficient accuracy. Write clear and concise strength summary reports demonstrating adequate strength margins for all significant possible modes of failure. Write other associated analysis documentation. Provide design support to manufacture to ensure that strength and stiffness requirements are met for all nonconformances to design with appropriate corrective action. To present strength and stiffness analyses and test requirements and assessments at formal design reviews. To prepare and maintain work plans, schedules, work package descriptions and costs. We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience Degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or similar related discipline with working experience in the Space, Aerospace industry Extensive detailed stressing and hand calculation experience for lightweight structures are mandatory for this role Extensive experience with the analysis of techniques and methods for light weight structures strength and stiffness prediction that are generally common to spacecraft structures analysis Experience in classical computer techniques including the use of the industry standard finite element programme with prepost processing software, Extensive experience in appreciation of the relevant design drivers and associated, manufacturing issues in their specialist field Indepth knowledge of MS Office, Nastran Knowledge of Femap and MathCAD would be a plus Ability to establish and execute work plan and cost estimate for projects Ability to train, advise and supervise team members in main activities Excellent presentation and communication skills Negotiation level in English. You will lead and perform the customer furnished instrument CFI interface engineering and management in the ExoMARS Rover team in phase CD, including support of internal teams responsible to perform the instrument integration and related activities with relevant data planning constraints. As part of the systems engineering area of the Exomars Rover Vehicle project, the candidate will perform the following tasks Coordinate and lead specific technical areas of the project. Review documentation from different technical domains and provide system level comments and signoff. Visit suppliers to review technically and troubleshoot multidomain technical issues. Support the system interface management where required. Maintain the system level documentation Design Description and Design Definition File. Maintain the product tree and hardware matrix. Manage the system reviews with the customer data pack generation, management of RIDs and subsequent actions. We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience Strong technical background in one or more of the following domains Spacecraft Electronics, Software or Thermal Engineering. Proven experience in Leading technical activities involving engineers from different technical domains. Proven experience as Project Manager or System Engineerengineering Manager for a full project lifecycle. Experience and knowhow coming from Spaceflight Hardware andor Software equipment and higher level development qualification AIT verification, ideally in a multidisciplinary orientation Strong leadership skills Proactive and selforganised attitude Good communications skills, in particular ability to defend technical aspects of various domains. Desirable Skills Experience with Mars missions andor DC motors would be an asset Experience with system interface management would be an asset.
