Husky Energy cuts spending, scraps quarterly dividend amid oil rout

Husky Energy is cutting $800 million from its capital spending plans for this year and suspending its dividend as it copes with the deep rout in crude prices. Husky's capital budget for 2016 is now pegged at between $2.1 billion and $2.3 billion, down from a previous range of $2.9 billion to $3.1 billion.

Joy Global Inc. said it swung to an unexpected sharp loss in its fourth quarter, as oversupplied global commodities markets severely dented bookings. The Milwaukee-based maker of mining equipment issued guidance for the current fiscal year well below analyst expectations and sliced its quarterly dividend to a penny a share from 20 cents a share--a move which, if maintained, would reduce its annual cash outlay by $75 million.

Pipeline operator Kinder Morgan Inc. slashed its quarterly dividend by 75 per cent Tuesday, saying that doing so would allow it to fund expansion, eliminate the need to tap equity markets and maintain its credit rating. The Houston-based company said its board approved a cut to its quarterly dividend to 12.5 cents per share from 51 cents per share, starting with the fourth-quarter payment payable in February.
