Safaricom sees drop in Ethiopia licence bid price after govt restricts mobile money to domestic firms

(Telecompaper) Disclosures contained in a transcript call covering events to the end of July, said Business Daily, reveal that Safaricom sees a licence without mobile money hurting profitability and lengthening the period to recoup the investment. CEO Peter Ndegwa said a licenve that does not include a mobile money license will significantly reduce the level of profitability and therefore in essence, Safaricom's bid price for the licence but also the profitability and payback period.

Intel granted US licence to continue supplies to Huawei

(Telecompaper) Intel has received licences from US authorities to continue supplying certain products to Huawei, an Intel spokesman tol Reuters. This follows new curbs coming into force 15 September in the US, prohibiting chipmakers from supplying or servicing Huawei.

OnwardMobility takes BlackBerry licence to produce new 5G smartphone

(Telecompaper) BlackBerry has reached a new deal to license its brand for a smartphone. The company OnwardMobility plans to produce a new 5G BlackBerry phone with physical keyboard for the North American and European markets. It's signed up FIH Mobile as partner to manufacture the device and expects to have its first product ready in the first half of 2021.
