An oil company is seeking to use tanker trucks to haul oil through Santa Barbara County while the pipeline that spilled crude into the ocean last month is out of commission. The Los Angeles Times reports that Exxon Mobil officials on Thursday told county officials they want to use a fleet of 5,000-gallon tankers.

Exxon Mobil officials are seeking permission to truck the oil through Santa Barbara County after a ruptured pipeline sent oil spilling into the Pacific Ocean and brought the company's oil transportation operations to a halt. Corrosion had eaten away nearly half of the metal wall of a pipeline that ruptured and spilled up to 101,000 gallons of crude oil along the Santa Barbara coast last month, federal regulators said Wednesday.
