Apple in talks to buy part of Intel smartphone modem business - report

(Telecompaper) Apple is in talks to buy a key part of Intel's smartphone modem business, four people briefed on the discussions told The Information. The acquisition of the German operations could boost the iPhone maker's plans to internally develop a modem for its devices, the report said.

It will focus on selling its technology and expertise to companies planning to add hydrogen drive to their products. The main market segments will remain the smartphone and automotive industries, based on myFC's Lamina fuel cell modules, fuel, and control processes.

Motorola launches new flagship Moto Z4 smartphone

(Telecompaper) Motorola has unveiled its latest flagship smartphone, the Moto Z4. The same as its predecessor the Z3, the phone can be turned into a 5G device with a clip-on 5G modem mod. The device also comes with an improved camera and battery life, in-display fingerprint reader and bigger screen. It will launch first in the US, for USD 500.

Ice Group Q1 revenues rise as smartphone customers grow, net loss shrinks by 13%

(Telecompaper) Ice Group has reported that total operating revenue in the first quarter of 2019 rose to NOK 457 million from NOK 381 million in the corresponding quarter last year. Total service revenues grew by 4 percent to NOK 375 million from NOK 361 million. Smartphone service revenues climbed by 12 percent to NOK 288 million from NOK 258 million in the same quarter last year.
