30 airlines sued over lightning-detection patent

A company holding a patent for a lightning detection system filed lawsuits against 30 airline companies Friday, alleging that the companies were infringing on its patent. The cases filed by Avioniqs, a Tyler-based company, said it held a July 1996 patent for a "Lightning Locating System" and that the airlines were using equipment that infringed on that patent.

Small airlines rise to the challenge as Air NZ bows out

Kawerau logging contractor Jacob Kajavala is tipping his safety helmet to Air Chathams, one of the unlikely little airlines that he believes will help keep rural New Zealand connected. Air Chathams, along with Sounds Air, will from April 28 pick up regional air services to Westport and Whakatane that Air New Zealand is abandoning because it says they are uneconomic.
