Information System Engineer Key Tasks and Responsibilities Are you a talented IT professional and would like to work in the space industry? We are looking for an Information System Engineer to join our Support Team at the European Space Agencys Directorate of Science and Robotic Exploration SRE in Noordwijk. You will require a range of skills including programming, system maintenance and user support. Daytoday tasks will include System administration activities for all the computer systems used for scientific research activities. These comprise of several servers running mainly the Ubuntu and Oracle Linux operating system, virtual computing environments, central storage and backup facilities and a GRID system, as well as several user workstations Specific tasks covering installation, upgrading and regular patching of these systems Installation and support of commercial and public domain software web services, database services, directory services, backup services, print services, license services User support and assistance Architectural design and improvement of the existing environment Provide proper documentation on supporting the infrastructure Support to the maintenance of the scientific publication lists for SREs missions including developing tools to extract publication information from the internet and combine this information to produce an ESA specific reporting tool Skills Experience You should have a university degree or equivalent higher education in computing or software engineering and several years of professional experience with Basic programming Scripting languages such as java, python, php, perl Web http apache tomcat Working knowledge of LinuxUnix administration is mandatory Backup Network Solution EMC Networker would be an asset Knowledge of Oracle RDBMS, MySQLEE Knowledge of networking protocols Problem solving skills and service minded Ability to multitask and thrive in a fast paced environment Ideally you will have experience of interacting with a scientific user community.
