Guardian: Republicans in Congress who reject the science behind climate change could soon be reduced to political fossils, with new polling on Wednesday suggesting three-quarters of young voters find such views "ignorant, out of touch or crazy". The bipartisan poll conducted for the League of Conservation Voters found solid 80% support among under-35 voters for Barack Obama's climate change plan and majority support even among those who oppose the president. Canada: Alberta Is Not Enforcing Oil Sands Industry's Environmental Infractions, Survey Finds
2013-07-24 08:39:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Canadian Press: A survey of thousands of environmental problems in Alberta's oilsands attacks the province's claims to having strict control over the industry's environmental impact. Fewer than one per cent of likely environmental infractions have drawn any enforcement, says the survey. It also says the province's records are incomplete and riddled with errors, so there is no way to really understand industry's impact on the region. SR Labs finds major vulnerability in Sim card update methods
2013-07-23 11:56:00| Telecompaper Headlines
(Telecompaper) German research lab Security Research Labs has discovered a vulnerability in Sim cards, whereby a cracked DES key allows an attacker to send Sim malware in the form of a Java applet. RS Labs recommends the mitigation of remote Sim exploitation on three layers: better Sim cards with long cryptography, handset SMS firewall anchored in each handset, and in-network SMS filtering. SR Labs founder Karsten Nohl told the New York Times that he obtained a 56-digit key by sending a virus to the phone by SMS. Once the virus is in place, a malicious party can read the device's SMS and steal data from the Sim card, mobile identity and charge transactions to it.
