U.S. airlines are raising base fares on many domestic flights even though they are getting a windfall from lower fuel prices. JetBlue Airways raised fares by $4 per round trip on a small number of routes Thursday, and Delta Air Lines picked up and greatly expanded the breadth of the increase, according to FareCompare.com CEO Rick Seaney and J.P. Morgan analyst Jamie Baker.

Lufthansa pilot walkout to ground more than 1,500 flights

Deutsche Lufthansa AG said the longest strike campaign in its history will ground more than 1,500 flights today and tomorrow and affect more than 160,000 passengers as its pilots escalate their protest. Cockpit crews stopped working from 1 p.m. local time today and will continue the action until 11:59 p.m. tomorrow, according to Vereinigung Cockpit union.

Hawaiian Airlines cancels some interisland flights for Sunday

Due to a tropical storm warning from the passing Hurricane Ana, some flights between Honolulu, Lihue, and Kahului have been canceled on Sunday, Hawaiian Airlines announced. Hawaiian said a one-time reservation change will be allowed without charge if the ticket was issued on or before Wednesday and the change is made before the departure time of the original flight.

Island Air cancels 50 flights due to hurricane

Island Air remained the only airline Friday to cancel flights for storm-related reasons as Hurricane Ana bore down on the Hawaiian Islands. The local commuter said it was canceling 50 flights this weekend and Monday between Honolulu and Maui, Lanai and Kauai.
Nurse on flights may have had worse case of Ebola

The president of Frontier Airlines says a nurse who was on flights between Dallas and Cleveland and who later tested positive for Ebola may have been at a more advanced stage of the illness than previously thought. Barry Biffle emailed employees Friday about the findings by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
