Guardian: The United States, Russia and other Arctic nations signed an agreement on Thursday to bar their fishing fleets from fast-thawing seas around the north pole. The accord, also signed in Oslo by the ambassadors of Canada, Norway and Denmark, is a response to global warming, which is melting sea ice in the central Arctic Ocean, an area the size of the Mediterranean. Work on fishing pier in Vermont park set to begin next month

The Caledonian Record reports St. Johnsbury-based contractor Fairbanks Mill is scheduled to start work early next month on the pier in Fred Mold Park in St. Johnsbury. Green Mountain Power, the project's sponsor, is having the pier built to meet re-licensing requirements.

Omega Protein has sunk a retired fishing vessel about 20 miles from the mouth of the Pascagoula River for use as an artificial reef. Officials tell The Mississippi Press that the Barataria Bay's exact location will be kept secret for one year to allow the reef to develop undisturbed.
