Houston energy companies keep their money, fight patent lawsuits instead

From the end of January to mid-June of this year, a single company, Data Carriers LLC, filed 40 different patent infringement lawsuits against Houston energy companies, or energy companies with a significant presence in Houston. Data Carriers hit the big names like BP Plc , Transocean Ltd. and ConocoPhillips , according to data from the Houston office of Chicago-based law firm Winston & Strawn LLP .
