Tele2 Q2 revenue drops 2%, underlying EBITDA rises 3% as Com Hem consolidation progresses

(Telecompaper) Tele2 has reported a 2 percent decline in second quarter group revenue to SEK 6.79 billion, with end-user service revenue falling by 1 percent to SEK 5.08 billion. Net profit was SEK 2.1 billion, boosted by the capital gain from the sale in Kazakhstan but dented by goodwill impairment in Estonia. In Sweden, the Com Hem integration is progressing, and it reached its FY run-rate synergy target after only six months.

(Telecompaper) Telecoms shares were mostly down in week 26. Our index was off 0.7 percent, versus a minor 0.2 percent gain for the benchmark, the EuroStoxx 50. Orange Poland and Play Communications were down 7.1 and 5.7 percent in apparent profit taking. The volatile Ice Group was the week's winner, up 25 percent. Year to date, the Telecompaper Stock Index European Telecoms Services is up 5.8 percent, considerably underperforming the EuroStoxx 50 index, which is up 12.6 percent.

(Telecompaper) In a week of high stock market volatility, the news flow from the telecom services sector was relatively light. KCOM, the local British incumbent accepted a higher takeover offer, Tele2 signed a network sharing deal for the Baltics and BT signed a deal with Cellnex. Polish shares did especially well in week 23. Our index ended the week up 1.2 percent, behind the EuroStoxx 50's 3.0 percent gain.
