Court rules that Telekom cannot throttle internet speeds

2013-10-30 17:20:00| Telecompaper Headlines

(Telecompaper) The Regional Court of Cologne has ruled that clauses in Deutsche Telekom's contracts proposing bandwidth throttling for fixed-line internet flat-rates are not viable. This follows a complaint by the North Rhine Westphalia Consumer Association. Telekom wants to throttle internet speeds to 2 Mbps if customers with fixed-line contracts exceed a monthly usage of 75 GB, excluding the use of Telekom's Entertain IPTV service. The proposal is stoking anger in Brussels, where Germany's negotiating tactics are regarded as heavy-handed. The latest compromise would allow a phase-in of a 95 grams per kilometer (g/km) limit on auto carbon dioxide emissions until 2022 and increase the number of supercredits, a mechanism...
