China sees first ever annual decline in smartphone shipments

(Telecompaper) China saw its first-ever annual decline in smartphone shipments in 2017. The market fell 4 percent year-on-year to 459 million units. This drop was partly due to China having one of its worst year-on-year performances in the fourth quarter of 2017, with shipments plunging by more than 14 percent to just under 113 million units, according to a report from Canalys. The report also indicates that Huawei shipments jumped 9 percent against the overall market decline, shipping more than 24 million smartphones and staying on top.

LG narrows smartphone losses in Q4 on stable shipments

(Telecompaper) LG Electronics reported improved results for the fourth quarter, led by its premium TV business, and said it expects sales growth to continue in Q1. The company also reduced losses its mobile phone business on stable shipments.

VR headset shipments top 1 million for the first time

Virtual reality headset shipments are showing no signs of slowing, as the quarterly total exceeded 1 million units for the first time in Q3 2017. Sony took the lead, shipping more than 490,000 PlayStation VR (PS VR) sets in the quarter.
