Rumor: Sony PS4 price cut is imminent

If leaked online listings are to be believed, Sony plans on dropping the MSRP of the PS4 from $399.99 to just $349.99 -- a 12.5% discount. And considering that this generation has seen the return of the pack-in game, this is an excellent price point for the upcoming holiday season.

Sony establishes Sony Semiconductor Solutions division

(Telecompaper) Sony Corporation is reorganising its Devices segment, which it previously identified as a key growth driver for the company. The new structure will enable each of the three main businesses within the segment, namely the semiconductor, battery and storage media businesses, to more rapidly adapt to their respective changing market environments and generate sustained growth. In the semiconductor business, where image sensors are a primary area of focus, Sony will establish Sony Semiconductor Solutions to further reinforce this business, and concentrate on sustained growth. R&D, business control, sales and other operations related to the semiconductor business, which are currently overseen by business groups and R&D units within Sony Corporation, will be transferred to Sony Semiconductor Solutions. The new company will start operations on 1 April. Terushi Shimizu, currently the deputy president of the Device Solutions Business Group, will become president of the new Sony Semiconductor Solutions. Sony Semiconductor Corporation (President: Yasuhiro Ueda) and Sony LSI Design (President: Makoto Ishii), which cover Sony's semiconductor manufacturing and design operations respectively, will become subsidiaries of Sony Semiconductor Solutions.

Sony, Verizon cancel launch of Xperia Z4v in US

(Telecompaper) Sony and Verizon have cancelled their planned launch of the Xperia Z4v smartphone in the US, Recode reported. No explanation was given for the cancellation. Verizon unveiled the Z4v in June but has remained silent on the device ever since.
