Iframe irony: Adblock Plus is probably the reason Firefox and Chrome are such memory hogs
2014-05-14 17:31:49| Extremetech
Here's a lovely bit of irony for you: Adblock Plus, which is by far the most popular add-on for Firefox and Chrome, is actually increasing the amount of memory used by your web browser, rather than decreasing it. Furthermore, ABP also increases the amount of time (and CPU cycles) required to render a website. Instead of making web surfing more responsive, ABP actually makes your surfing experience slower.

Anti-phishing feature fails in beta Chrome browser
2014-05-08 13:49:34| InfoWorld: Top News
An experimental feature in test versions of Google's Chrome browser that is intended to provide greater protection against phishing can, in some cases, do the opposite, according to a security company. The "Origin Chip" feature shows the root domain of a website which in theory makes it easier for users to spot if they are going to "paypal.com" or "paypalripoff.com" without the distraction of the rest of the URL describing the exact location of the Web page.

Google moves to kill off the URL entirely in new version of Chrome
2014-05-01 15:16:29| Extremetech
Google, after removing the age-old, comfortable-like-an-old-pair-of-socks http:// from the beginning of URLs in Chrome's address bar, is now trialing an even more drastic move: Killing off the URL entirely. In a new version of Chrome, the full URL vanishes from the address bar, instead replaced by an always-present "Search Google" box. This is obviously a play to drive more search traffic -- but, as much as it pains me to say it, it's probably a very good way of helping most users avoid phishing attacks.
Chrome Remote Desktop makes its way onto Android
2014-04-18 14:31:19| Extremetech
Earlier this week, Google released Chrome Remote Desktop for Android, and brought VNC to the masses. This tiny 2.1MB app allows your phone or tablet to connect seamlessly to Chrome on a PC, and completely control your desktop without having to bother setting up your own VNC server.
