Location ESRIN, Frascati, Italy Our team and mission The postholder will report to the Head of the Applications Section in the Data Applications Division within the Science, Applications and Climate Department of the Directorate of Earth Observation Programmes. In the execution of the tasks, the postholder will work in close cooperation with other staff of the Directorate of Earth Observation Programmes. The Data Applications Division is a dynamic team leading research and innovation activities, in partnership with European and international industry and academia, aiming at advancing science, developing novel applications, supporting industry growth and contributing to establish an European ecosystem of exploitation platforms to maximize the impact of European missions in society. In the coming year activities in the area of applications will focus particularly on exploitation of data from the existing Sentinel missions as well as the preparation of the Copernicus evolution. Location ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands Our team and mission The Radio Frequency RF Systems Division provides expert support to ESA programmes in the RF system and technology domains, which include navigation, telecommunication, Earth observation and science. It contributes to the technological development of the Agency. It runs the associated laboratory facilities and manages the associated investments. The Radio Navigation Systems and Techniques Section covers radio navigation techniques and technologies, elements and subsystems capable of generating, receiving, exploiting and analysing the signals from the current and upcoming radio navigation systems GPS, Glonass, EGNOS, Galileo, Beidou, etc., including system design tools and navigation equipment. Emphasis is placed on the engineering aspects, the GNSS system and subsystem evolution, design and technological demonstrator prototyping, and specifically on navigation system design and tools, novel navigation techniques and equipment design and prototyping, onboard receivers and formationflying RF metrology. Fields of activitiesresearch Positioning and navigation have become essential functions in everyday life for professional and massmarket usage. This leads to a continuous extension of the user base phones, wearables, watches, etc., operating environments cities, indoor, etc. and improvement of performance accuracy, resilience, power consumption, etc. The field in which the selected research fellow will focus their activities is signal processing and navigation algorithms to enhance performance and resilience of PNT PositionNavigationTiming solutions in challenging environments multipath and nonlineofsight impairments, interference, etc.. There are two main activities which could be foreseen 1 The first activity will focus on the development of algorithms, in particular navigation algorithms, to enhance the accuracy of GNSS and hybrid GNSS solutions. The main focus shall be on terrestrial users and technologies. 2 The second activity aims at developing solutions combining the latest GNSS with the latest alternative and backup PNT technologies 5G landscape, signal of opportunity incoming from LEO satcoms, etc. to achieve seamless ubiquitous accurate positioning. Location ESTEC, Noordwijk, The Netherlands Our team and mission The Power Systems, EMC and Space Environment Division is responsible for all aspects of power systems required for ESA spacecraft and payloads. The Divisions activities cover power generation, power management, electromagnetic compatibility, energy storage and space weather. The Power Management Section provides specialist support in the domain of power management and distribution to current ESA missions and development projects. The Section is also responsible for ESA RD activities in its competence domain, working on internal activities as well as collaborating with industry and academia throughout Europe developing future power management technologies. The work of the Section is supported by the Power Conversion Lab Test Facility on site at ESTEC. The Section performs testing and prototyping in the Power and High Voltage Laboratories to support projects and internal andor external RD activities, to promote new concepts and to serve didactical purposes knowledge and education. In the recent past, the power management domain has been going through important evolutions due to the generalization of digital control and the disruption of new semiconductor technologies based on GaN and SiC. Our Earth Science has a vacancy for a Postdoc fm vacancy number SRON 1432 Project Outline As part of the European Copernicus space segment, SRON supports the European Space Agency ESA in developing space missions to monitor anthropogenic greenhouse gases from space. The missions comprise instruments measuring sunlight, which is reflected by the Earth atmosphere, to provide the atmospheric abundances of carbon dioxide CO2 and methane CH4 with high accuracy. The project includes two major tasks to be performed 1 the joint development of a mission endtoend simulation capability with our project partners for Europeans future CO2 monitoring mission and 2 dedicated error analyses depending on instrument concept and performance. For this purpose, we are looking for a scientist with strong numerical experience who is capable to work in an international team. Requirements We are seeking for a candidate with a PhD in astrophysics or meteorology with strong programming skills and familiar with Python, CC and Fortran90 and experience in the fields of trace gas retrieval. Experience in the field of satellite remote sensing would be a clear asset.
