(Telecompaper) The mobile operators AIS and True won the two licences in the 1,800 MHz band auctioned in Thailand. The two-day auction raised in total THB 80.8 billion, the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission announced. True will pay THB 39.79 billion for 1710-1725 MHz paired with 1805-1820 MHz, and AIS will pay THB 40.99 billion for 1725-1740 MHz paired with 1820-1835 MHz. The licence holders will be required to cover 40 percent of the population with 4G services in the spectrum within four years and 50 percent within eight years. The operators Jasmine and Dtac also bid in the auction, but did not win spectrum. Dtac said in a statement that it will continue to offer 4G in the 1,800 MHz band through its concession agreement with CAT Telecom. The same four bidders will participate in the auction of 900 MHz band licences in December.
