Virginia Beach cake shop owners plead guilty to money laundering, drug charges

Vernon Michael Norvell and his wife, Cheron Johnson, owned G's Cake Shop - Cake for all Occasions in Virginia Beach. Norvell, 43, pleaded guilty to conspiring to distribute cocaine and conspiracy to commit money laundering.

Navistar International Corp agreed to pay a $7.5 million fine to settle U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission charges that it defrauded investors into believing a diesel truck engine it was developing could meet tough federal emissions standards. The SEC also filed a related lawsuit accusing former Navistar Chief Executive Daniel Ustian of leading a "campaign of deception" to defraud investors in 2011 and 2012.

Anheuser-Busch unit settles warehouse safety charges

The U.S. Department of Labor has settled charges with an Anheuser-Busch Inbev S.A./N.V. unit over workplace safety hazards at a New Jersey warehouse for $150,000. The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration cited Anheuser-Busch Sales of New Jersey L.LC., a wholly owned subsidiary, in December 2014 for numerous safety violations at its Jersey City, New Jersey distribution warehouse, including untrained forklift operators, obstructed exit routes, damaged storage racks and inadequate chemical hazard communication training, according to a news release issued on Tuesday.

Novartis settles Chinese bribery charges with $25M payment

The SEC says Novartis has settled civil charges of committing bribery in China and agreed to pay $25M to the government. Violations happened from 2009 to 2013, the SEC says; Novartis' settlement means that it doesn't admit or deny the charges, and it says the allegations largely predate compliance measures that are now in place.
