Covidien plc today announced U.S. Food and Drug Administration 510 clearance for its Fortrexa over-the-wire percutaneous transluminal angioplasty balloon catheter. The Fortrexa 0.035" OTW PTA balloon catheter -the next-generation high pressure solution to maintain arteriovenous access-is also intended for use in the peripheral vascular system.

General Mills Inc. unveiled its Doughboy balloon for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day parade after giving it a flight test earlier this month. The company has a post on the new balloon on its blog, A Taste of General Mills, which includes a video of the Doughboy balloon's first public appearance at "Balloonfest" Nov. 8 at New York's Citi Field, along with an interview with John Piper , vice president of Macy's Parade Studio, where the parade's balloons are designed and made .

Conference Call Monday at 8:30 a.m. ET Expands Spectranetics' portfolio of solutions to treat complex vascular conditions in projected $ 700 million drug coated balloon segment COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., and DUBLIN, Ireland, Nov. 2, 2014 -- The Spectranetics Corporation and Covidien plc today announced a definitive agreement under which Spectranetics will acquire Covidien's Stellarex drug coated angioplasty balloon platform for $30 million. The transaction is subject to approval by the Federal Trade Commission and other regulatory agencies, as well as closure of the pending acquisition of Covidien by Medtronic, which is expected to occur in early 2015.
