Austria's TKK opens applications for 3.4-3.8 GHz band auction

(Telecompaper) The Austrian Telecom Control Commission (TKK) published tender documentation for the auction of frequencies in the 3.4-3.8 GHz band. The auction is planned for the first quarter of 2019. According to Johannes Gungl, Chairman of the regulator RTR, this time they have done several things differently compared to the multi-band auction in 2013. The reserve price is much lower, the auction design is simpler and more transparent, and the announcement follows three rounds of consultations with stakeholders. Germany releases draft 5G auction terms

(Telecompaper) Germany's Federal Networks Agency has presented its draft terms for the 5G auction planned for early 2019. The proposal on the 2 GHz and 3.6 GHz bands has been sent to the regulator's advisory board, which will give its opinion on 24 September, before a final decision on the terms in November.

Five operators bid initial EUR 2.48 billion in Italian 5G auction

(Telecompaper) Five telecommunications operators have made preliminary bids totalling EUR 2.48 billion in the first round of Italy's national 5G spectrum auction, according to a statement from the Ministry of Economic Development (MISE). Telecom Italia (TIM), Fastweb, Vodafone Italia, Wind Tre and Iliad submitted bids for licences in the 694-790 MHz, 3.6-3.8 GHz and 26.5-27.5 GHz bands and will be allowed to increase their offers on 13 September. Under the tender's rules, new entrant Iliad had a special right acquire up to three blocks of 2x5 MHz in the 700 MHz band of the six available, for which it bid EUR 676.5 million, said the ministry.
