Should you choose highest corn yield or consistent corn yield?
2013-11-27 13:46:00| Corn & Soybean Digest
Greater weather and profit risks causing growers to think differently. How do you manage for top yields in highly variable soils, when weather uncertainties, high land costs and falling crop prices have reduced the margin of error? It may require changing goals, suggests Charles Walthall, USDA-ARS. read more

Residue management can reduce continuous corn yield penalty
2013-11-21 00:48:00| Corn & Soybean Digest
Crop rotation is the only certain way to eliminate the continuous corn yield penalty, says Joe Lauer, University of Wisconsin corn agronomist. But tillage and good residue management can reduce it. read more

Continuous corn yield boost?
2013-11-01 21:34:00| Corn & Soybean Digest
Promising fertility research may eliminate yield drag. You may not have to settle for yield drag with continuous corn. Recent University of Minnesota research indicates that yields from continuous corn in conservation tillage may be comparable to corn following soybeans or intensive tillage when selected management and products are used. read more

Projected corn, soybean yield versus trend line yields in 2013
2013-09-18 21:48:00| Corn & Soybean Digest
Source: University of Illinois On Sept. 12, the USDA released revised projections of 2013 state corn and soybean yields. Also released were 2013 projected crop reporting district (CRD) yields for Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Texas. These projected yields are compared to 2013 trend yields to assess which areas of the country are having better relative corn and soybean yields than other areas. read more
