Telegraph: Climate change campaigners have welcomed new guidelines which urge Chinese consumers to eat 50 per cent less meat, even though food experts say enticing the country's growing urban middle classes away from beef and pork will be a huge challenge. The Chinese Nutrition Society last month called on consumers to reduce the amount of animal-based food they eat from about 300 grams to 200 grams a day and their meat consumption from about 62 kg to 27 kg per year. The Beijing-backed health agency hopes...

Brexit would be bad for bees, say campaigners
2016-06-15 11:36:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Guardian: Brexit would be bad for Britains bees, according to campaigners, who point to the UK governments opposition to EU bans on harmful pesticides and the desire of figures in the Leave camp to cut nature protections. Bees and other pollinators are vital to producing food but have been harmed by loss of habitat, disease and pesticides. The EU banned three neonicotinoid pesticides in 2013 in the face of strong opposition from UK ministers. The UK government allowed an emergency exemption to the...

Friends of the Earth and a local campaign group, Frack Free Ryedale, have written to North Yorkshire county council claiming the decision could be illegal. They...

Private funding to fight slavery grows but impact limited: campaigners
2016-04-02 00:09:30| IT Services - Topix.net
Private funding to fight modern day slavery rose by nearly 60 percent over a two-year period but remains too little to make any meaningful impact against the global problem, anti-slavery organizations said on Friday. Between 2012 and 2014, some $233 million of private funds was spent on anti-slavery initiatives - an amount dwarfed by the estimated $150 billion in profits forced labor generates every year, the Freedom Fund and Humanity United said in a report.
