Vents being installed at Gering landfill

2015-06-24 17:11:29| Waste Management - Topix.net

The wet, rainy weather has led to an increase in methane at the Gering landfill, and city officials say they're taking steps to alleviate the issue. The city announced today that the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality has approved the City's Methane Gas Remediation Plan and has given permission to install three Passive Gas Vents on the east side of Cell 5 as soon as it can be scheduled.

Standard covers direct flame impingement of exterior vents.

2014-12-18 14:31:02| Industrial Newsroom - All News for Today

While California code notes that attic vents should resist intrusion of embers and flames, there has not been a standard to evaluate such intrusion. ASTM E2886/E2886M, Test Method for Evaluating the Ability of Exterior Vents to Resist the Entry of Embers and Direct Flame Impingement, fills this need. Primary users will be vent manufacturers and building code officials in areas where performance criteria have been established for ventilation products used in wildfire-prone areas.

Flame Arrestor Vents safeguard against battery explosions.

2014-09-25 14:31:35| Industrial Newsroom - All News for Today

Made of hydrophobic Vyon® materials, Flame Arrestor Vents safeguard from potential explosions in lead acid batteries. Sintered porous plastic materials offer chemical compatibility and are resistant to most acids. Creation of flow path, by which gases released through valve element can escape from battery, prevent propagation of potential flames. In addition to preventing sparks from entering battery, vents provide controlled airflow, minimizing risk of acid spillage. This story is related to the following:HVACFlame Arresters | Battery Vents

'Widespread methane leakage coming hundreds of vents off East Coast

2014-08-25 16:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

Washington Post: Methane bubbles flow in small streams out of the sediment on an area of sea floor of Virginia north of Washington Canyon. Quill worms, anemones and patches of microbial mat can be seen in and along the periphery of the seepage area. (NOAA Okeanos Explorer Program, 2013) Of all the global warming gasses, methane is one of the very worst. Pound for pound, the Environmental Protection Agency says its effect on global warming is 20 times greater than that of carbon dioxide. And though its lifetime...

Hundreds methane vents causing 'widespread leakage' discovered along US-Atlantic margin

2014-08-25 16:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

Business Times: Scientists have discovered nearly 600 methane vents off the eastern seaboard of the United States, along the continental margin, which is the region of the ocean floor lying between the coast and the deeper Atlantic Ocean, according to a paper published Sunday in the journal Nature Geoscience. It is the first time we have seen this level of seepage outside the Arctic that is not associated with features like oil or gas reservoirs or active tectonic margins, Adam Skarke, a geologist at Mississippi...
