LIRR: Man found near LIRR tracks died of cardiac arrest

A homeless man was crossing the railroad tracks with friends in Freeport when he collapsed Wednesday and never regained consciousness, MTA officials said. Yoni Marcos, 35, was taken to South Nassau Communities Hospital in Oceanside, where he was pronounced dead, said Salvatore Arena, a spokesman for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

A large-scale, multicenter study has shown that emergency body cooling does not improve survival rates or reduce brain injury in infants and children with out-of-hospital cardiac arrest more than normal temperature control. Therapeutic hypothermia, or whole body cooling, can improve survival and health outcomes for adults after cardiac arrest and also for newborns with brain injury due to a lack of oxygen at birth.
