Singtel launches APAC eSports league with Razer, other partners

(Telecompaper) The Singtel Group announced that it will roll out its eSports initiative with the launch of the PVP eSports Championship, a multi-title and regional league with a prize pool of USD 300,000. This is part of the group's efforts to expand its gaming and digital content business across its footprint in the Asia Pacific region. To be held in Singapore from 5 to 7 October, the PVP eSports Championship is in line with Singtel Group's plans to foster an eSports ecosystem and community together with its Australian subsidiary Optus and regional associates Airtel, AIS, Globe and Telkomsel.

Telefonica, Etisalat, SingTel and SoftBank set up cybersecurity alliance

(Telecompaper) Telefonica has teamed up with Etisalat, SingTel and SoftBank to create an alliance designed to offer businesses a comprehensive portfolio of cybersecurity services. The partners said the Global Security Alliance is set to become one of the top five security providers in the world, with more than 1.2 billion customers in over 60 countries across Asia Pacific, Europe, the Middle East and the Americas. Together, the group's members currently operate 22 Security Operation Centres (SOCs) and employ more than 6,000 cybersecurity experts.

Singtel to interconnect m-wallets for cross-border payments

(Telecompaper) Singapore mobile operator Singtel has announced plans to interconnect mobile wallets across different ecosystems through an interoperable platform. To start with, the Group plans to initially link the mobile wallets of Singtel and its regional associates, with the first commercial launch between Singtel and AIS. Different mobile wallets across different markets will be connected to offer cross-border payments at physical merchants.

Singtel to buy more shares in Bharti Airtel

(Telecompaper) Singtel has announced plans to invest up to INR 26.5 billion (USD 413 million) in shares in Indian operator Bharti Telecom, and thus slightly increase its stake in the holding company for Indian operator Bharti Airtel to just under half. The purchase, subject to approval by Bharti shareholders, could increase Singtel's stake in Bharti Telecom by up to 1.7 percent to 48.9 percent and its holding in Bharti Airtel by up to 0.9 percent to 39.5 percent.
