BCE Inc. increased its net income to $600 million or 77 cents per share in the third quarter, both up about 75 per cent from the same time last year when the Montreal-based company booked a special item related to its takeover of Astral Media. Excluding that and other items, BCE's adjusted net income increased by 11 per cent from a year ago to $648 million or 83 cents per share - five cents above analyst expectations of 77 cents per share.

Rogers Communications Inc. says its third-quarter profit declined more than 28 per cent as the telecom and media company pushed ahead with changes intended to improve its long-term performance. The Toronto-based cable and wireless company , which also owns one of Canada's largest media businesses, reported $332 million of net income, or 64 cents per share - down from $464 million, or 90 cents per share.
