Workplace Electrical Safety: Prevention before Protection
2013-03-20 21:33:00| Electrical Construction & Maintenance
Workplace safety is a MUST DO for every business and electrical safety is no different, especially given the devastating impact of the arc flash hazard. The webinar will teach attendees the difference between risk and hazard, and how the choice of system grounding has a direct impact on reliability and safety. It will also describe how to use the systemic approach outlined in ANSI Z10 to drive an effective workplace electrical safety program Location Online Webinar United States See map: Google Maps Workplace safety is a MUST DO for every business and electrical safety is no different, especially given the devastating impact of the arc flash hazard. The webinar will teach attendees the difference between risk and hazard, and how the choice of system grounding has a direct impact on reliability and safety. It will also describe how to use the systemic approach outlined in ANSI Z10 to drive an effective workplace electrical safety program. The webinar will discuss the application of ANSI Z10 as a framework for Workplace Electrical Safety and the clear and stark difference between prevention and protection and which should be the first choice every time. Attendees will learn: how to deploy proven and available technology to eliminate hazards (prevention), how to substitute the hazard for a lower level of hazard (protection) how to use engineering controls (protection) to ensure a safer working environment. Technologies that will be discussed in the presentation will include High Resistance Grounding and its benefits with respect to electrical reliability and safety and the easy steps that can be taken to convert ungrounded systems to the safer HRG system; a system that reduces the arc flash hazard by limiting the fault current to a sufficiently low level that the arc cannot re-strike and self-extinguishes. The presentation will highlight and discuss advances in HRG technology that shortens the time required to locate a ground fault, that provides fail-safe protection from ground faults, that allows for process continuity of critical processes even under second fault conditions and finally the option to manage individual feeder protection. Other technologies highlighted will be arc mitigation as well as engineering controls such as arc resistant switchgear, infra-red windows and remote actuators for circuit breakers.
