Red Hat, Rackspace win early dismissal of Uniloc patent suit

Red Hat and Rackspace have won an early dismissal of a patent infringement claim brought by Uniloc, in a decision the companies are hailing as a potential landmark in intellectual property law. Unlioc had sued Rackspace in June 2012, saying that the Linux OS violated a patent Uniloc holds related to processing floating-point numbers. Rackspace uses Red Hat's flavor of Linux. The software vendor defended Rackspace in the case as part of its Open Source Assurance program for customers, according to a statement.

Grace & Co., through its wholly-owned subsidiary, Alltech Associates, Inc., filed a lawsuit in U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware against Teledyne Technologies, Inc., doing business as Teledyne Isco of Lincoln, Neb., for infringement of four Grace U.S. Patents that cover its proprietary Reveleris® X2 flash chromatography system.
