Burlington Northern Santa Fe is paying for 142 Washington firefighters to receive training in Pueblo, Colorado, in oil train accidents. The Seattle Times reports the classes began in July and will continue through the end of the year.

Canadian Pacific Railway is expanding its switching yard near downtown St. Paul, despite the city's objections over environmental concerns. A St. Paul Pioneer Press report says the expansion plan involves filling in six acres of wetlands and clearing four wooded acres.

MTA capital budget to include $300M for new fleet of Staten Island Railway cars

Borough President James Oddo and Councilman Vincent Ignizio say the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will designate $300 million of its proposed capital plan to roll out a completely new fleet of trains for the Staten Island Railway . "The borough president, as well as Councilman Ignizio, has made it very clear how important it is to Staten Island to get new cars," said an MTA official.
