School district awarded $250K grant from Steelcase to transform

The Steelcase Foundation approved a two-year, $250,000 grant for Godfrey-Lee Public Schools to find a way to transform the district's environment, structure and approach to teaching and learning. "The grant is designed to support us through this transformation and redesign process," said Superintendent David Britten, about the high poverty, 1,947-student district that's 75 percent Hispanic.

The Steelcase pyramid, once the shining star in the world's largest office maker's firmament, has become a lonely place standing in the middle of a field of native prairie grasses and flowers. Instead of employing hundreds of engineers and designers, it's now the sole domain of Jim Faunce, who moved to West Michigan from Denver last month to watch over the 7-story structure for its new owners, California-based Norman Properties LLC. Built for $111 million as the "Corporate Development Center," Steelcase moved out in 2010 as sales and profits fell during The Great Recession.
Steelcase dealership acquires electrical services firm

The addition of the C&S will provide the Grand Rapids-based office furniture dealer, at 217 Grandville Ave., will expand its newly launched interior construction services division. The 33-year-old C&S, currently located at 220 N Ferry St, has provided service to manufacturing, commercial, industrial and retail clients.
