That division had been seen as an obstacle for would-be suitors, many of whom are foreign and would have a hard time convincing regulators to let them supply technology to the U.S. army.  Pre-split, any acquirer would have had to line up a second buyer to take on the government unit.

Computer Sciences Corp. begins trading as two separate companies Monday after the spinoff of its public-sector company as CSRA Inc. said in May that it would separate its faster-growing government business from its commercial operations. The company had been under pressure from activist investor Jana Partners LLC, which had talked to CSC about strategic alternatives.
