IBM unveils new Power8 servers in last-gasp effort to battle Intels x86 dominion

Just two days after jettisoning its last Intel/x86-oriented division to Lenovo, IBM has unveiled the first servers based on the new Power8 CPU architecture. Somewhat unusually, IBM's press release directly attacks both Intel's "closed and proprietary" way of doing business and its products (IBM says Power8-based systems are nearly 20% better on price-performance than x86-based systems). Is IBM all bark and no bite? Or does the Power8 architecture and and OpenPower Foundation (which now has 59 members) actually stand a chance against Intel's server monopoly? Dominion wins US FERC approval for Cove Point LNG export project

Dominion natural gas exports plan gets federal OK

Federal regulators have approved Dominion Energy's proposal to export liquefied natural gas from its Cove Point terminal on the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. In a decision late Monday, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission concluded that the project, as approved with conditions, will minimize potential adverse impacts on landowners and the environment.

Old Dominion Adds 2 New Drayage Facilities

Old Dominion Freight Line added drayage facilities in Dallas and Nashville, which it says are strategically positioned near major railheads to accommodate growing demands domestically and globally. "We are delighted to open OD's first drayage facility in the state of Texas as well an additional facility within the state of Tennessee this year," said Jerry Aaron, director of container operations at Old Dominion.
