Agriculture minister 'hopeful' no rail strike

Federal Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz says he's hopeful mediators will be able to avert a strike by workers at Canadian Pacific Railway but if they don't, the government will take action to make sure the economy doesn't suffer. The union representing 1,800 safety and maintenance workers and another union which represents 3,300 locomotive engineers, conductors, trainmen and yardmen across Canada have issued a strike notice for early Sunday morning.

Agriculture industry reacts to strategic plan

A state agriculture and steering committee just presented Governor Bentley with a five-year-plan to improve the economy and add jobs, but how will it affect you if it is implemented and when could you notice a change? A state agriculture panel says if enacted, their plan would create 58,000 jobs and add $7 billion to the state's economy. "The goal of this, over the next five years is to say ok, what we can do to grow this by 10 percent," said Brian Hardin, Government and Agriculture Programs Director at ALFA.
