IBM commits to Apache Spark open source project

(Telecompaper) IBM said it has made a major commitment to ApacheSpark open source project. IBM plans to embed Spark into its Analytics and Commerce platforms, and to offer Spark as a service on IBM Cloud. IBM will also put more than 3,500 IBM researchers and developers to work on Spark-related projects, donate its BM SystemML machine learning technology to the Spark open source ecosystem, and educate more than one million data scientists and data engineers on Spark. This will be done through partnerships with AMPLab, DataCamp, MetiStream, Galvanize and Big Data University MOOC.

Houston-based Apache Corp. to close regional office in Tulsa

Houston-based oil and gas producer Apache Corp. will close its regional office in Tulsa as part of a company-wide restructuring. The Tulsa World reports the company announced its plans Monday to close the office that employs 160 people.

Apache selling Australian subsidiary for $2.1 billion

" Apache Corp. says it is selling its Australian oil exploration and production subsidiary for $2.1 billion in cash. The Houston-based company said Wednesday that a consortium of private equity funds managed by Macquarie Capital Group Ltd. and Brookfield Asset Management Inc. agreed to buy Apache Energy Ltd. The assets of Apache Energy Ltd. and its subsidiaries averaged production of roughly 49,000 barrels of oil equivalent per day in March.

Woodside Petroleum closes $US2.8bn purchase of Apache Australia assets

Woodside Petroleum has completed the $US2.817 billion acquisition of LNG and oil assets owned by Apache Corporation in Australia, with a second, $US854 million transaction involving the Canadian interests expected to close next week. The $US3.67 billion deal was announced by the two companies in December, involving a total purchase price of $US2.75 billion, plus extra amounts to reimburse the US company for investment made since the effective date of July 1 last year.
