TSMC Will Build Semiconductor Factory In Taiwan

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company Limited announced on its website that the company will invest over NTD500 billion, which is about USD15.9 billion, to build a new plant to meet the ever-growing demands for chips. The new plant will be located in Central Taiwan Science Park and it is currently undergoing an environmental impact assessment.

With a new plant coming on line, more than 6,500 jobs will be created at Advanced Semiconductor Engineering's manufacturing site in Chungli, northern Taiwan, chairman Jason Chang remarked during the company's year-end banquet recently. ASE set up its manufacturing site in Chungli by acquiring a plant from Motorola in 1999.
