Global energy sector CO2 emissions flat in 2015: IEA

2016-03-17 09:59:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

Reuters: Global emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) from the energy sector were flat in 2015, despite an uptick in economic growth, the IEA said on Wednesday. The energy sector is the largest source of man-made greenhouse gas emissions and traditionally its emissions have only fallen or stayed flat during economic downturns. Global energy CO2 emissions were almost unchanged at 32.1 billion tons last year, preliminary data from the International Energy Agency (IEA) showed, while the global economy grew...

Economic growth no longer translates into more greenhouse gas: IEA

2016-03-16 04:53:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

Agence France-Presse: Global economic growth did not translate into more harmful greenhouse gas emissions from the energy sector last year, the IEA said on Wednesday, a strong indication that growth and increased pollution no longer go hand in hand. For the second year running, worldwide CO2 emissions stalled in 2015 while the global economy grew by 3.1 percent, after a 3.4-percent rise in 2014, the International Energy Agency said. A surge in the contribution from renewable energy sources explains the decoupling of...

IEA: Slashed spending by drillers could lead to price spike

2016-02-22 22:40:58| Energy - Topix.net

"' Oil prices will more than double by 2020 as current low prices lead drillers to cut investment in new production and gradually reduce the glut of crude, the head of a group of oil-importing countries said Monday. Oil prices shot to more than $100 a barrel in mid-2014 before a long slide sent them crashing below $30 last month.

Oil forecast to reach $US80 by 2020 as output growth slows, says IEA

2016-02-22 22:23:09| Oil & Gas - Topix.net

Fawad Razaqzada, a technical analyst in London for forex.com, expects US crude to test its March low of $US42.03 and Brent its January bottom of $US45.19. Oil prices will reach $US80 a barrel by 2020 as global oil supply growth is "seriously" plunging, the head of the International Energy Agency said, suggesting the light at the end of the tunnel for the energy industry is still far away.

China 'wild card' as coal projections pared back, IEA says

2015-11-10 15:00:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed

Sydney Morning Herald: China has become a "wild card" for global coal markets as its demand for the fossil fuel ebbs and it helps drive a worldwide rush into renewable energy sources, the International Energy Agency says. In its closely watched World Energy Outlook report for 2015, the agency projects coal will account for just 10 per cent of any increase in global energy demand out to 2040, far shy of the fuel's 45 per cent contribution over the past decade. Renewable energy subsidies are less than one-quarter of...
