Satellites for Fault Location
2013-07-08 20:10:00| Transmission & Distribution World
When will satellites be able to provide fault location and assist in damage assessment by monitoring real time flashes and allowing operators to zoom in on affected areas, assuming an interface with the utility's OMS and asset management systems? I assume the military capabilities to do similar reconnaissance are there now. read more

Available in 4 x 3.5 mm VQFN package, Models SN65HVD101 and SN65HVD102 integrate voltage regulator with ability to supply up to 20 mA for local circuits, minimizing board area and enabling adaptation to existing 3.3 or 5 V controllers. IO-LINK PHY devices provide up to 40 V, steady-state protection to prevent damage due to installation faults or cable breaks. Operating from -40 to +105°C for harsh environments, ICs drive up to 480 mA for interoperability with sensors and small actuators. Study says tar-sands oil not more likely to leak; activists fault study
2013-06-27 00:46:00| Climate Ark Climate Change & Global Warming Newsfeed
Grist: Supporters of the Keystone XL pipeline cheered Tuesdays release of a study that deemed diluted bitumen - the heavy crude mined in Albertas tar sands that Keystone would carry to Texas - just as safe to transport via pipeline as other forms of crude oil. They see the results as further clearing the way for approval of the pipeline. But environmental groups criticized the methodology and limited scope of the study, which was conducted by the National Academy of Sciences. From Inside Climate News:...
Wireless Sensors are fault tolerant and battery powered.

Used for data logging, alerting, and compliance, ZPoint can transmit every 5 min for up to 5 years on 2 AA batteries. Transmission distances reach 1,000 ft outdoors and 300 ft, even with obstructions and obstacles, within buildings. Fault-tolerant design continues to report data to cloud if AC power is lost and stores/forwards sensor readings upon wireless signals interruption. Other features include internal temperature or temperature/humidity sensor and 2 external sensor input jacks. This story is related to the following:HVACWireless Sensors | Temperature Sensors
