It was a busy day for King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima on the first full day of their first U.S. visit since ascending to the throne two years ago. The busy itinerary included face time with President Barack Obama, who praised the Netherlands as among America's "oldest and most precious allies" as he welcomed the royal couple to the White House on Monday, June 1. On Tuesday morning, they will fly to Grand Rapids for a gathering at Frederik Meijer Gardens & Sculpture park, and then take tours of Helen DeVos Children's Hospital and Van Andel Institute before heading to Chicago for the final leg of their tour.

The king of the Netherlands and his wife will stop at the Frederik Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park, Helen DeVos Children's Hospital and the Van Andel Research Institute during a June 2 visit to Grand Rapids. The Dutch Embassy announced March 31 that King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima will visit Chicago, Grand Rapids and Washington during a June 1-3 trip to the U.S. Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder's office and the Dutch Embassy released details of the trip Monday.
