For the location in Darmstadt, Germany we are looking for a Software Engineer for Mission Planning Support fm at Eumetsat. Aufgaben Tasks The EUMETSAT TSS Technical and Scientific Support Department provides in an integrated manner scientific and engineering support to EUMETSATs programmes during the development and operations phases, and process assurance project control to the whole organisation. Within the TSS Department, the GSI Generic Systems and Infrastructure Division is in charge of engineering, maintaining and upgrading generic ground segment functions, services, infrastructure and tools in response to requirements of operational and future programmes. The Mission Control Applications and Tools Team under the GSI Division is responsible for the maintenance and evolution of all Satellite and Ground Segment MC applications and tools. This includes MC kernel, MC archive, Flight Dynamics, Mission Planning functions and the MCrelated tools. The key person shall work in the Mission Control Applications and Tools Team providing hisher prime support to the engineering and maintenance of the Mission Planning facility, but also will provide some software engineering support to the rest of facilities under the responsibility of the Mission Control Applications and Tools Team. For such software facilities the tasks of the key person will typically include Software Engineering Activities Analysis, software design and following the procurement with external contractors of the evolutions needed in existing mission control facilities to become multimission tools with the concept of generic kernel and missionspecific extensions Analysis, software design and following the procurement with external contractors of the evolutions needed in existing mission control facilities to migrate them to state of the art technologies Analysis, software design and following the procurement with external contractors of the evolutions needed in existing mission control facilities to adapt them to the programmes needs for EUMETSAT coming missions Implementation of prototypes, technology research tools and operational tools in the area of MC Study the different approaches for the longterm maintainability of the mission control facilities Software Maintenance Activities Preventive and corrective maintenance including the investigation and correction or following the corrections implemented by external contractors of anomalies in the software facilities and verification testing of the fixes Evolutions and changes generation and analysis of userdriven and maintenancedriven software requirements, design, following procurement of the changes with external contractors and verification testing of the changes Maintenance test procedures generation and updates of maintenance test procedures at software facility level and at system level, development andor procurement of scripts tools to perform installation checks, nonregression, functional and performance testing Automatic verification testing analysis and implementation of mechanisms allowing the automatic or semiautomatic verification testing of the software facilities Installation and verification testing of new software releases or patches preparation and participation to infactory at contractor premises acceptance testing campaigns, coordination of the installation of new releases or patches onsite and running the onsite verification testing at facility and system level Technical Management Documentation generation and updates of technical documents Routine reporting preparation and production of routine reports as necessary Meeting participation participation to technical, progress and team meetings as needed and requested Contractor management at technical level support for the technical management of the external contractors including supporting technical discussions, review of technical documentation from the contractor, organizing periodical technical meetings with the contractor Software Engineering Methodology Analysis activities focused on a common software engineering methodology and common software engineering tools for the GSI Mission Control Applications and Tools Team Development of tools supporting these common software engineering methodologies User Support Software support software support to the endusers of the application software Training prepare and provide training covering endusage and maintenance aspects of the mission control facilities Essential requirements In addition to having a University degree in a relevant engineering discipline, the key person shall demonstrate significant knowledge and experience in the area of software development. The key person shall have skills and experience in software development with the following mandatory areas System Development Maintenance Skills Extensive experience minimum 5 years in software development and maintenance using a formal life cycle resulting in deliveries to customers. This includes production of requirements, design engineering artefacts and implementation reflecting corrective and evolutive software maintenance activities as well as new applications definition. Extensive experience minimum 5 years in AssemblyIntegrationVerification AIV related activities test procedure generation, nonregression testing, requirements verification and validation Software Engineering Skills Extensive experience minimum 5 years in designing and developing software components and applications using Object Oriented OO approach including design patterns Relevant experience in the usage of software CASE design tools Extensive experience minimum 5 years in designing and developing software applications using Java under UNIX operating systems Experience minimum 3 years in designing and developing software applications using C under UNIX operating systems Extensive experience minimum 5 years in designing and developing software client applications using Eclipse as HMI framework Rich Client Platform Extensive experience minimum 5 years in developing software applications using interfaces to relational database management systems RDBMS and experience with RDBMS engineering Documentation and Configuration Management Skills Very good knowledge of MS Windows Office Suite applications and experience with documentation management systems Experience in using configuration Management and anomaly reporting and tracking tools The key person shall be able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner, to work calmly and correctly under stress with the minimum of supervision.
