But the organic compounds trees pump out don't just register well with our noses: they also help cool the climate by encouraging clouds to form. As plants respire, they emit chemicals called volatile organic compounds. In the atmosphere, these VOCs can interact with other chemicals to form particle "seeds" that clouds can grow around. Alzheimer's Could Be the Trade-off for Deep-Space Pioneers

Cosmic radiation could accelerate the onset of Alzheimer's disease among astronauts, adding to the health risks it's already known to pose. Researchers at the University of Rochester looked at the effect of high-mass particles with a high charge.
