Chris Christie vetoed legislation that would have banned the use of individual maternity pens for pregnant sows. NPPC Hails New York Support of Sow Stalls

Source: National Pork Producers Council The National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) has joined the New York Pork Producers and America’s hog farmers in hailing the New York Legislature for its positive action in not banning individual maternity pens for pregnant sows. NPPC says the measure could have had a devastating effect on local sustainable agriculture in New York by forcing farmers to abandon this humane animal housing system. NPPC Supports Free Trade Talks with the EU

Source: National Pork Producers Council The United States and the European Union (EU) will begin talks the week of July 8 on a comprehensive free trade agreement (FTA) to formulate plans for the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). The initial talks between President Barack Obama and EU President Jose Manual Barroso and European Council President Herman Van Rompuy are set to start in Washington, DC. read more

NPPC Comments on Failed Farm Bill

Source: National Pork Producers Council The National Pork Producers Council (NPPC) is displeased that the House of Representatives on Thursday failed to approve the “Federal Agriculture Reform and Risk Management (FARRM) Act of 2013” (H.R. 1947). The bill failed on a vote of 195-234. The measure did not include the “Egg Products Inspection Act Amendments,” or Egg Bill, pushed by the Humane Society of the United States and strongly opposed by the National Pork Producers Council (NPPC). read more
