Vodacom Group FY revenue rises 5%, subscriber base up by 6 mln

(Telecompaper) Vodacom Group revenue increased by 4.8 percent to ZAR 90.75 billon for the year ended 31 March from ZAR 86.63 billion in the same period of 2019, supported by service revenue growth of 5.0 percent. The mobile phone firm added 5.9 million customers and reached 116 million across the group. Total financial services customers were up 12.8 percent or 6.0 million to 53.2 million.
SK Telecom's Q1 revenues rise nearly 3% on growing 5G subscriber base

(Telecompaper) South Korean operator SK Telecom posted first-quarter revenues of KRW 4.45 trillion, which represents an increase of 2.7 percent, mainly boosted by 5G subscriber base growth and development of new businesses, including media, security and commerce. Operating income was down 6.4 percent to KRW 302.0 billion due to expanded 5G network investment costs including 5G spectrum licensing fees. First-quarter net income amounted to KRW 306.8 billion, plunging 17.9 percent affected by factors including decreased equity method gains from SK Hynix.

China Mobile, Huawei put 5G base station at the top of Mount Everest

(Telecompaper) China Mobile and Huawei have together built the highest 5G base station in the world: at 6500 metres on Mount Everest. The base station will enable China Mobile to run its dual Gigabit network on the mountain. The base station launch marks the 60th anniversary of the first successful ascension of Mount Everest from the northern slope. Base stations are now at the Mount Everest Base Camp at 5,300 metres, the Transition Camp at 5,800 metres, and the Forward Camp at 6,500 meters.
